How I Approach Therapy

Therapy is most effective when it is a collaborative, enlightening, and empowering process of self-discovery and sustainable changes made over time. I partner with patients to understand their concerns and what factors contribute to them. I then help them to explore their various options so they can decide what feels most aligned with their abilities and values.

My therapeutic style is down-to-earth, nonjudgmental, direct, intuitive, and playfully engaging. It is informed by years of clinical experience, identification with the various communities I treat, and ongoing professional development and mentorship from some of the world’s leading sex therapists and authors on sex and sexuality.

What Happens in Therapy

In therapy, you are welcomed into a supportive and safe relationship within which you can observe and work through difficult thoughts, uncomfortable feelings, and unhelpful patterns in your life. I’ll ask you important questions you’ve likely not yet asked yourself, and I’ll introduce you to new perspectives that can fundamentally change how you approach problem solving. Throughout your therapeutic journey, you’re supported in thinking of yourself and your concerns differently, where change might be much easier to achieve than you expected. I invite you to look forward to exploring new ways of crafting your most fulfilling life, both in and out of the metaphorical bedroom.

Clinical Background

For several year after licensure, I served as a Clinical Psychologist at Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital. There, I worked in the Dual Diagnosis, Trauma, and Veterans programs to treat individuals, couples, families, and groups. Later, I was recruited to work at Sharp McDonald Center's residential chemical dependency treatment facility.

At both Sharp HealthCare and a crisis house in Downtown San Diego, I greatly enjoyed being a Clinical Supervisor at Sharp HealthCare and New Vistas Crisis House. Within my supervisory role, I trained, mentored, and oversaw the clinical and professional development of graduate students studying psychology, social work, professional clinical counseling, and marriage and family therapy.

In 2018, I made the leap to open my own private practice. These days, I am thrilled with the work I do and the people I am fortunate to help. I feel grateful to be able to blend my clinical experience and training with my biggest passion -
helping others to enjoy better sex and overall wellness. I look forward to helping you, as well.

When I'm not on the other side of your screen

I enjoy my free time playing beach volleyball, gardening, creating art, traveling to tropical locations, sharing laughs and experiences with loved ones, and spending time with my dog, Bear. I also love exploring all the beautiful neighborhoods, beaches, and restaurants that San Diego offers.

My Commitment to You

Not satisfied with simply helping you to feel “less bad,” you have my commitment and support as you pursue pleasure, experience more moments of joy, and create a life worth celebrating.

I understand that finding the right Psychologist or Certified Sex Therapist can be frustrating and time consuming. People sometimes need assistance getting connected to the right provider for their needs. When you schedule your free 15-minute phone consultation or your first 60-minute Initial Evaluation for Therapy appointment, we’ll review your concerns and goals for therapy. If we both agree that we’d be a good fit, your healing has just started. However, if another provider or treatment approach that I don’t offer might be better suited to your needs, I’ll gladly provide you with those referrals. It’s that simple.
